Landscaping

My husband and I are trying to do our own landscaping around our pool fence and it's been kind of fun to see the different kinds of bushes that are out there to purchase. We have all of the bushes bought now and have all but three in the ground. Our next step is to decide what we want for a border. It's kind of hard to decide because on one side of our fence it goes uphill. Should be interesting to see what we come up with. Then we want to put rock around the bushes. I think it will look really nice when it's done.

Lucky

Our oldest son is wanting his dog to come to our house for about 3 days and my husband and I are against it. Don't get me wrong we love the dog it's just that we don't have pets ourselves and Lucky is a real shedder. It's kind of a sore spot right now with our son and I guess I don't blame him. Anyway, not sure at what's going to happen but I'm expecting her to be here whether we want her or not.

Migraines

I suffer occasionally with a migraine headache. Many can be caused by stress, not enough sleep, menstrual cycles and possibly other things. It's very hard to find something that will actually help. My Dr. gave me a couple samples of imitrex and I found if I took it right when I went to bed it helped alot better. Once I took one when I was out and about shopping and my head was hurting too bad already and it didn't help me at all. Taking it when you're at the beginning of the migraine and are able to lay down is the best way. They are horrible headaches and I feel for anyone who suffers with them.

Robins

Last night my husband and I were sitting out on our front step and we saw this robin swoop down and pick up some stuff that looked kind of like cotton. He/she flew up in our neighbors tree and then came down again to pick up somemore strawlike substance. We got up to watch and here he/she was building a nest. I think that's the first time I've ever actually seen a bird build it's nest. It was fun to watch and I do believe it was a male cause a pregnant female would have been alot more round in the belly. It will be fun to watch as time goes by.

Art

My oldest son has a great ability to drawing and art. I just got a call telling me that he looked into an art school and submitted a test. The man on the other line was very impressed and that made me very proud. I'm excited for our son to learn more about this and this man is anxious to talk with him so we will hopefully hear something soon in a positive way.

Day Camp

Our youngest son is out this week volunteering at our church Bible camp.
He's there to help keep an eye on the children, play games and do activities with them. He's done this for several years now and enjoys the time spent out at the camp and having fun with the children. He can also set a good example to these younger children what God is to him in his own personal life. We are very proud of him for doing this and I know the children enjoy him too. He has a fun personality.

Hot weather

Wow! Is it ever hot today. The humidity is starting to move in and the temps are rising. They are saying it could be in the 90s this weekend. Hopefully we can get our pool up this Saturday and start enjoying it. It's also nice to be inside where the air conditioning is. I'm not complaining though cause I would much rather have this kind of weather then blowing snow and cold temps.

College

This is the time of year when I am busy trying to get all forms filled out for my sons for college. It seems as if it is never ending. I understand the importance of having to have all this information but sometimes I wish if they know a student is returning for another year that he or she would not have to repeat every year the same forms. It's something I don't understand. My suggestion would be that they offer the returning students a chance to change any information if need instead of repeatedly filling out the same forms year to year.

Twin Lakes Christian Center

Twin Lakes Christian Center is located in Twin Lakes, Iowa, about 5 miles north of Rockwell City, Iowa. This is a Christ centered Bible Camp that offers so many different camping opportunities. They have week long camps from elementary through high school. Day camp is also another option for younger children. Their days are full of fun activities and also learning more about Jesus. They also have great facilities for family reunions. They just finished building a lodging place that is perfect for those family reunions.
Other retreats that happen throughout the year are scrapbooking and quilting. It's a great time for ones who have these hobbies to come together for a weekend and enjoy their craft together.
The food is very enjoyable and the atmosphere is wonderful. I think all kids and even grownups should experience camping at a facility like Twin Lakes Christian Center.

Friends

A dear friend is priceless. I have a very good friend that is there anytime I need her. She accepts me for who I am, flaws and all. I feel so loved by her and she treats me the same no matter what. Soon I will be having surgery very early in the morning and she and her husband are going to arrange to be there to sit with my husband while I am in surgery. She is a true, true friend and I think the world of her. She's the greatest.

Our pool

We are planning to put out pool up today. It's not a really big one but it's big enough for us. Normally we have it up by now but with the weather being so much cooler and being too busy it's taking us awhile. It is so wonderful to have when it starts getting so hot and humid. It's refreshing and a great way for us to cool off. We have a privacy fence around it so no one can see us in it which is nice. I'm looking forward to when it's finally up.

South Dakota

In about week or so our sons will be going to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. They have been out there several times but love doing some hiking and of course seeing the amazing sites of Rushmore and Crazy Horse. I know for myself I am in awe of how someone could carve those faces into the rock. The precisness of them is so amazing. I've been there a couple of times myself and I never get tired of seeing those creations. And the scenery around Rushmore is so beautiful. South Dakota is a wonderful place to visit and a great place for families.

Windy day

It is extremely windy today. You don't dare open your windows or your whole house will be covered in dirt and besides that it's pretty warm out there, too. Iowa has way too many windy days. I guess it's probably because we don't have alot of trees or hills to break it. Oh well, that's life in the state of Iowa.

Lucky

My sons went out today to visit our oldest son's dog named Lucky. She is staying on an acreage with some friends. She is having the time of her life and is a perfect acreage dog. The guys said she looked like she was getting more meat on her bones and looking stocky. I'm sure she is getting spoiled there. She is such a good dog and obedient. I need to go see her sometime. She always favored me and I loved that.

Memorial Day

Monday was Memorial Day and many people went out to the cemeteries to visit the grave sites of their loved ones. It's a wonderful day to reflect back to the family and friends that have gone on before us. I was unfortunate to get to visit grave sites because I had to work and we also live a long distance away from them. I think it's great that we have a day to be special for them. Also, to remember all the lives that have been taken in war, how sad that it is.
