Cicadas

Where we live we have the sound of buzzing cicadas in our neighborhood. Most of the time we start to hear them around the beginning of July but this summer they started toward the end of June. They make such a loud noise and it seems like the hotter it gets the louder they get. I was sitting on our deck by the fence and suddenly noticed one of their shells hanging right next to me. Of course, I freaked out because I think they are ugly. Anyway, my husband is amazed by them and he picked it off the fence and threw it away. They are very odd creatures and I don't like them.

Ghost Hunting

My sons and there friends like to do alot of ghost hunting. I have trouble with that because I don't feel that is very wise. I feel there's alot of evil spirits out there and I believe as Christians we should not be apart of searching out spirits. I know that the show Ghost Hunters has given them more of a desire to do this and I wish they would find better things to do with there time. I pray for them often and hope they will soon get bored with this whole thing.

Block Party

My husband and I and the people who live on our block got together for an ice cream social. We've lived in this house for over 19 years and this is the first time we've ever had a neighborhood block ice cream social. I dreaded going but we ended up having a pretty good time. There were people there I'd never seen before. We didn't even have to walk very far cause it was held two houses from ours. The weather was about perfect so that added a plus to the evening. I'm glad we went.

Rain

We have been needing rain for so long. Our poor grass looks dead. Then last night a thunderstorm came and wow did it ever rain. It was like music to our ears to hear the rain hitting our windows and watching it fall heavily to the ground. I sure hope it puts alittle color back into our yard. And maybe we won't have to water our bushes and flowers for one day, that would be great.

Friendship

Friendship is so amazing. It's wonderful to have people you can friends you can go to if you need a shoulder to cry on or if you just want someone to listen or hang out with. We have a great church family that has showed their friendship during my recovery. Ladies have brought in delicious food for us to enjoy and it has saved on my husband to not have to cook. We feel very blessed.

New Price is Right Host

I was watching David Letterman the other night and his guest was Drew Carey. As I was watching all the sudden Drew announced he was the new host of the Price is Right.
I was surprised. I guess I expected to see someone different in that position. Carey is a comedian and maybe that will add to the hosting job, I don't know. Anyway, time will tell how he will do.

Nursing Home

Today my husband and his siblings had to put their mother into a nursing home. She has been ill with Alzheimer's for the last 3 or so years and she's getting worse. It has been an emotional time for the family and hard on them to have to take this next step. I talked with my husband and he said it went very well and we thank the good Lord for that. I pray that she will adapt well and that it will be good for her.

Yay! I'm so excited that I finally got a post to do. There are alot today but they get taken so fast you have to be watching all the time. It's good money too cause they have been giving $10 for 50 words. That's pretty good. I hope I can get another one soon. That made my day.

Recovery

Well, it's been almost a week since my surgery and I am about climbing the walls with boredom. I am tired of watching tv and not being able to do much. I tried to do alittle dusting this morning but tired out and started hurting more. I don't enjoy reading so that's out for what to do. I do love to scrapbook but get too uncomfortable sitting in an office chair for too long so there's not much to do.
It's been absolutely gorgeous outside so I did sit out there for alittle while yesterday. I'm just so use to go, go, going that's it's hard to keep me down. Anyway, I know I need to behave myself if I want to get back to normal activity in a reasonable amount of time so I will try.

Surgery

I got home Thursday from the hospital. I had a hysterectomy and am so glad to be home. It went very well and yes, I am very sore. I've been told that I will feel like a new woman. At the hospital they were doing some remodeling and I got a brand new room. It was beautiful but I also had to listen to construction noise which wasn't alot of fun. Anyway, I have been spoiled with alot of gorgeous flowers and many cards. I feel so blessed.

Shopping

This past weekend when my sister was here we had a great time. We did so much shopping it was kind of funny. We spent all of Saturday shopping and then on Sunday we did more in the afternoon. My sister was so funny to watch cause pretty much every store she went in she found something to buy. We had alot of laughs and good visiting. I love it when she comes. I wish we lived closer so that we could do that more often.

Pirate Master

I've been watching the new show Pirate Master. It's from the same creater of Survivor. It's somewhat good but has alot of similarities as Survivor. It's not a show I'm terribly excited about but since there really isn't much else worth watching on I do watch it. It is kind of cool how it's very much like the whole pirate thing...that's fun to see what they come up with. Anyway, it's not the best show on and it's not the worst.

My sister

My twin sister is coming to visit tomorrow. She does this every summer. We spend a whole day shopping in a larger city. We eat out and catch up on what's going on in each others lives. It is great fun and we look forward to our time together each summer. I can't wait till she gets here. The time always goes too fast but we make the most of it.

Dr. appointments

Yesterday I had two dr. appt. I had a preop physical because I am having surgery this next week. Then my husband and I had to drive to Ames which is about an hour and a half to go to my main dr. who will be doing the surgery. It was a long day of waiting to see the drs. but I'm glad it's over and now I'm set for my surgery day. I am so looking forward to getting it done and know that I will feel alot better in the near future.

Des Moines

My husband and I went to Des Moines for the afternoon and evening yesterday. We went and did some shopping and went to Sam's Club. We have found that you can save quite a bit of money on certain items there when you buy in bulk. It's a fun store to walk around in. We ate at Ryan's which is a delicious buffet. They have a very wide range of selection and like usual we ate alittle too much. It was a fun day but on the other hand we got home too late. Oh well, it was still fun.

Happy 4th of July!

It's time to celebrate our freedom and the wonderful country that we live in. We are so fortunate to live in this country when we see how so many other countries have to live. We visited Mexico awhile back and though in alot of ways it was beautiful I was so glad to get back to the United States of America. We feel so blessed to be citizens of this great country. I hope everyone feels the same way and I also hope you can celebrate in a special way on this day.

July 4th

Our nation's independence day is tomorrow. We usually celebrate it with a barbecue and all kinds of yummy food. Then around 9:00 p.m. we head out to the lake and watch fireworks. It's a fun day. When our kids were younger we always tried to go see a parade but haven't done that for quite a few years now. That's always fun to do, too. Sounds like we are going to have some hot and humid weather but that's usually how the 4th should be.
