Bedtime

Well, it's about bedtime so I need to shut down the computer and go chill out alittle and whined down so I can sleep. I have to get up fairly early in the morning so I don't want to get to be too late. I better just quit typing now. So, "Good Night."

When my friend and I had lunch today we were talking about going on an Alaskan Cruise. California

When we lived in California back in the 60's it was alot of fun. It seemed like almost every weekend we went to the beach. That was the greatest. My dad loved jumping in the waves with my oldest brother. We have home videos of it. My sister and I loved playing in the sand. Those were the good old days.

Family

My family growing up had a total of 7 people in it. I have two brothers and a twin sister. My oldest sister is no longer with us. We grew up in California for 9 years and then moved back to Iowa when I was in 5th grade. We lived on an acreage where my dad raised pigs. It was a good life in the country. One thing I didn't enjoy though, was all the chores. I do believe that I learned to work hard and I continue to work the same way today.

Lunear Eclipse

The other night, I believe it was Monday, I saw the most beautiful full moon. It was so bright that it lit up our backyard. Our son couldn't sleep very well that night so between 4 and 5 o'clock in the morning he went out to see the eclipse. He said it was amazing. I wish I could have seen it but I was sleeping pretty good around then.

Flowers

Ever since we have gotten so much rain our flowers around our place are blooming like crazy. I have 3 rose bushes and they are absolutely gorgeous. They all look so colorful and very healthy. I am enjoying them to the fullest and hope they continue to do very well.

Refigerators

A few years back we bought a new refrigerator. We had a couple of side by side refrigerators and this time we decided to buy one with the freezer on the bottom and that was the smartest thing we did. My husband and his siblings are planning to fly to Palm Springs in September and his brother found out today that his boss won't let him have the day off when they are suppose to fly out. Tacos

Last night we had tacos for supper. It's Jesse's favorite meal and I wanted to have some before he moves back to college. They were so good and he ate 4 large ones. Jet Streams

I love it when the sky is clear and to sit either traveling or just relaxing and see the jet streams in the sky. When I'm laying in the pool and I see them go over I imagine to myself where they could be heading. I also think about the times I've flown and picturing myself that high up. Dragonflies

Somedays when I am laying out in the pool or just relaxing out there I will look up and there will be so many dragonflies. They look huge. When I'm in the pool they fly low like they want to get a drink from pool. They are kind of freaky looking so I scare them away. They are fun to watch, though.

I enjoy watching the Ellen Show. She is so funny and has great guests. It's funny all the way through the show and it's fun to see how she interacts with the guests and the audience. Pool

Sunday Evening

Sunday evening we had about 6 people come from our church to celebrate with us our 25th wedding anniversary. They sat and visited for the longest time, which was very nice. Then we ate sandwiches, brownies, and homemade ice cream, which they had provided. We had the nicest time and I'm glad they came over. They were at our house about 3 1/2 hours.

Time to call it a day

Well, it's that time. I think I'm ready for a nice long break. It will be supper time soon and I think we are going to order pizza. I'm too tired to cook and besides that it's Friday and pizza is always good on Fridays. Maybe we will get pepperoni and beef, we'll have to see.

Just got a call from our youngest son, Jesse. He is heading home after spending some time with his brother. He was about an hour away. It was good to hear his voice and of course he wanted to know what was for supper. He loves it when I cook and I love it that he loves it. He's a good kid.

It is so good to see the sun shining so brightly. It's been too long since we have been able to enjoy a sun filled day. Hopefully this will help to dry up the very wet ground and get rid of some of the flooding that has been going on. It sounds like we are in for somemore of these sunny days.

Saturday

About 3 years ago I was the lead housekeeper out at Twin Lakes Christian Center. It was a huge job but I enjoyed myself most of the time. My coworkers were Christians so that made working together so much nicer. We could share our faith and prayer requests without getting into trouble. I don't miss being out there in the winter, cleaning cabins, though. It use to get pretty cold.

Empty Apartments

I and my husband work at a place where retired people live. Sometimes when a resident passes on or goes to a nursing home we take on the job of cleaning out their apartment. Sometimes it can be a blessing because the family will leave alot of nice things that we are free to take and sometimes it's just alot of hard work but all in all we have gotten some cool things.

One week left

Moving a resident

It was alot of work but alot of fun also.

Garage Sales

Last weekend when my husband and I went away we tried to go to some garage sales. We don't take the time to do that much but we usually find it's worth it when we do.

Pool

It's really a bummer cause we haven't been able to use our pool much this summer. And for as hot as it's been that's really a bummer. I had surgery so I am not allowed to go in it and then we get all this rain and it's made it almost impossible to enjoy it. Here it's almost time for us to take it down. It almost wasn't worth putting it up.

Church family

Some people from the hospitality group from our church are coming Sunday night to celebrate our 25th anniversary. They will be bringing sandwiches and homemade ice cream. There will be about 5 couples coming for fellowship. They usually give the couple celebrating their anniversary $25 in silver dollars. It should be a nice time.

Roofing our house

Last fall we had to get our roof reshingled. We had to endure alot of noise and mess. There were nails and old shingles laying everywhere and made the yard look terrible. A year later we are still finding nails. They did the best they could at picking up. I guess you can't get everything.

When I was younger I loved going to Adventureland. I would ride the roller coaster over and over again. I would get so brave as to raise my arms straight up. It was so much fun but as I've gotten older I am not so brave. They still have some pretty awsome rides and they look like alot of fun but I'm too scared to get on some of them. It is fun to watch others, though.

Water Tower

Last night I was upstairs in my son's bedroom and I looked out the window and there was a man standing on top of the water tower and another climbing to the top. I was nervous for them cause I know how scared of heights I am but I guess they wouldn't be doing it if they felt like I do. I think they must have been doing some repairs up there. They were not up there very long.

Headaches

I have a really bad headache today and being on the computer is not helping it at all. I deal with alot of headaches, some migraines and some from lack of sleep. It's no fun to deal with. I think I just need to call it a day and go relax and hopefully I will get some relief. I will go and chill out in my recliner.

Supper time

Well, it's almost supper time so I better go see what I can cook up. I'm kind of hungry for mashed potatoes and gravy so maybe I'll do something like that. It's just my husband and myself tonight so it should be kind of quiet. Both of my son's are in Dubuque and that's good. We like having the house to ourselves once in awhile.

Car repairs

Well, this seems like the summer of car repairs. Our youngest son had his car in and out of the shop a couple of times and then our oldest son was out driving in heavy rain and he drove right into a huge flooded street. The car stalled and water ran inside of it. It was so wet and smelled awful. Anyway, we just got done paying about $150 to get his car running again and it's finally dried out and smelling better. Hopefully the car repairs end now.

Prison Break

The other night I saw a preview for Prison Break. It starts back toward the end of September. It looks intense. My husband and I love to watch that show. It's probably one of our favorites. Our oldest son is hooked on it too. If you have never seen this show before you need to check it out. It's very, very good and we are looking forward to it returning.

My parents

On the way home yesterday I stopped by quickly to see my parent. My sweet mom made me a sandwich for the road so that I didn't have to take time or money to go get something to eat. It was a brief visit but it was nice. They showed me a rattlesnake egg joke thing and of course it scared me. We had a good laugh about it.

Lunch out

Yesterday I went to lunch with my sister and her daughter, Jenna. It was the first time, in person, that I had seen Jenna pregnant. Oh my goodness, she is so cute. She looks like she has a basketball tucked up under her shirt. She looks wonderful.
I always knew she would be a cute little pregnant mommy. We had a nice time and the food was delicious. Hopefully we can do that again sometime.

Dehumidifiers

It is so great to own a dehumidifier. They get rid of the musty, damp smells that occur during the summer time. It's been a great help while we have been dealing with a wet basement this last week. It's a real blessing to have it and we wouldn't be without one.

Flooding

I had to make a trip up north in Iowa yesterday and on the way up it was crazy to see the flooding of fields and ditches. The whole day that I was gone it rained constantly. When I went through one small town there were several homes that had carpet laying out by the curb showing that they had a flooded basement. I drove through Fort Dodge and the river was extremely high. I felt bad for the ones that were living so close to it. Then as I made my way home I had to take a detour because the water was covering the road and as I was taking a different route there again I had encountered more water running across the road. Thank the good Lord I was able to get through there. I made it home safely.

Hurricane Dean

I heard yesterday that hurricane Dean was heading toward Cancun and the Yucatan. My husband and I were in the Yucatan in May and they still had damage there from a previous hurricane. It's a beautiful place to visit and I hate to hear that they could endure some more damage. I haven't heard the latest but I pray all is ok.

Pizza Ranch

We are going to the Pizza Ranch for supper tonight. We are meeting with all the staff from Sunnyview. It's a great place to eat and we should be in good company. I'm just about ready to head out the door. I'm good and hungry.

Dentist

Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist again. I have another tooth that needs to be prepped for a crown. It's tough when alot of my teeth start to bother me at about the same time. It will be getting more expensive once I start getting the permanent crowns on. I'm not looking forward to that but then on the other hand it's going to be nice to have teeth that aren't sensitive anymore or hurt.

College

Well, it's that time again when kids are back to school and college kids leave to start their new year. Our oldest son leaves tomorrow and starts school on Monday. When he came home in May it seemed like such a long time before he would have to go back and now here it is. Time just goes way too fast. I think he is actually looking forward to getting back also.

Sam's Club

We are members of Sam's Club and we enjoy shopping there every month or every 6 weeks. They have so many things to offer and at a very good price. We've been checking out their LCD TVs and they have some great deals. Other things that we enjoy are the clothing items and some of their grocery items. My husband got a really nice large tool box this past weekend and it's very nice quality for the price. It's a great place to shop.

Rain

Last night we had some major downpours. Just in a few hours we got over 6 1/2 inches of rain. A good 2/3 of our basement got soaked and we were up till 4 a.m. this morning cleaning things up. Then again this morning we got another downpour and it sounds like we are going into a week of alot of rain. It's gone from one extreme to the other. It was so dry for so long and now we are getting too much rain. No happy medium right now.

Pets

Growing up as a child we had many cats and dogs. Of course we lived on a farm so we could. But as a grownup we have never had a cat or dog. Our one son is terribly allergic to cats and well, the dog sheds. But we did have a parakeet and some fish.
Our parakeet's name was Joe and it was a very sad day when he died. Our fish lasted quite awhile but we no longer have any cause I am having trouble keeping them alive.
Anyway, it's been fun having some sort of pet around.

Lucky

My oldest son's dog is here again. We keep saying she can't come anymore but then there really is not alot of choices where she can go. She will be here through Tuesday and then our son moves back to where he goes to college. So, I guess that won't be too long and she is such a sweetie.

Des Moines

My husband and I are getting away this weekend. We are planning to go to Des Moines.
We would like to go to some garage sales and do alittle shopping. We may even go to the Fair while we ar there. That depends on the weather, though. I'm hoping to go see a good movie but we will see.

Shopping

Today I went and did some grocery shopping. First I met with a friend for lunch and we went to Culvers then I did some shopping. I can't believe how much some of the food items have gone up in price. Milk and egg prices are really high. Thank goodness for Aldis cause you can get your milk for under $3. Anyway, I'm glad that chore is done.

Heat Wave

It sounds like today will be our last really hot day for alittle while. A cold front is suppose to move in tonight and by Friday the high is suppose to be in the upper 70s. I am so looking forward to shutting the air conditioning off and opening up some windows. I miss the nice cool air, especially at night. Just so we don't get any bad thunderstorms in the process.

Wedding

Saturday,we went to a wedding at our church. The bride graduated with our oldest son and the groom worked with our son out at the Bible Camp. Erin, the bride, was so beautiful and I think highly of her. The bridesmaid dresses were very cute and different. It's so interesting to see the different styles of weddings anymore these days. The reception was awsome with so much food. We had sub sandwiches,chips and an amazing dip, and all kinds of fresh fruit with fruit dips. It was delicious. It was a fun afternoon and evening.

Iowa State Fair

Last Friday the Iowa State Fair began. I'm not sure if we will be going this year but my sons are going with some friends. It's been terrible hot weather which is usually what is too be expected at fair time. One thing I do enjoy about the fair is the funnel cakes. They are the best. Eating is probably my most favorite thing to do when I go there. They have lots to see and lots to do.

Carroll

My husband and I are going to Carroll tonight to visit a future resident of Sunnyview. She had hip replacement surgery this morning. Then I think we may do some shopping for fun. It will be nice to get out and not be home at night for a change. We haven't been to Carroll in a very long time.

Smokey Mountains

Last summer we took a vacation to the Smokey Mountains. We stayed in Gatlinburg which is located at the foot of the Smokeys. It was so fun. Our two sons went with us and we took a couple of days and went up into the mountains and did alittle hiking and exploring. We also went into Pigeon Forge to one of the largest Flea Markets I have ever seen. The whole trip was amazing.

Friday

Tomorrow is Friday already. I don't know where the week has gone. We have a wedding to go to on Saturday and have family coming to visit on Sunday. I have a feeling the weekend will be here and gone before we know it. It is fun to have things to do thought instead of just sitting around doing nothing. It should be a fun time.

Dogs

I love dogs especially when they are puppies. My favorite dog is a Yorkie. They are so small and cute. I would love to have one but they are very expensive to buy.
My sister has a bichon and she is adorable. Her name is Zoe. She doesn't shed either which is a great benefit in my eyes. She looks like a cottonball. Just so sweet. Dogs love you no matter what and they are always happy to see you.

Grand Canyon

A few years back we took a 3 week vacation out west. On our way home we stopped by the Grand Canyon. By that time I was really wanting to get home so I didn't appreciate the beauty that God has created. I'm hoping that one day we can go back and spend a few days there to really take in the wonder that it really is.

Pizza Ranch

We went to the Pizza Ranch tonight for supper. They have a buffet every Tuesday and Thursday nights and one on Sunday. My youngest son has been worked there since they open there doors over 5 years ago. The food is so yummy and I fill up too full. The chicken is my favorite. I don't think anyone makes good tasting chicken better then Pizza Ranch. I look forward to the next time that we will go and make sure I have plenty of room in my tummy for it.

Sunnyview

I've been off work for almost 4 weeks now because I had surgery. I decided to go to Sunnyview where I work and visit with some of my coworkers. Then while I was out there I began to see many residents that live there. It was so fun to see them and to see how happy they were to see me. I miss them and I can see that they miss me.
That made my day.

Mountains

I love vacations in the mountains. We have been to Colorado several times and each time we have gone I am just as amazed by the Rocky Mountains as I was the first time I saw them. They are a miraculous creation of God and so gorgeous. We love going to Estes Park and I am hoping in the near future we can visit there again. I do get scared sometimes when we are driving in them because of how high we get and how far down we look outside of our car but the view is phenomenal.

Early mornings

Well, once again I am up way to early in the morning. I woke up about 3:30 and am still up at 5:30. It is kind of nice to be up though because it's so quiet and everyone is still sleeping. I'm able to be on the computer or watch tv without any interruptions. Yet, on the other hand it makes me more tired throughout the day. So,I think I need to go relax alittle bit so I can hopefully go back to sleep for awhile.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are wonderful things to have when you are traveling or you need to purchase things over the phone or online but they also can be a big problem. When I say problem I mean people who use them for purchasing things when they don't have the money to pay for them. It just builds up and you find yourself in great debt because you can't pay them off. I always try to say if you don't have the money for it now, wait till you do and don't buy if you can't pay it off the next billing. It can get you into too much trouble with money. From experience when I was young I know what I'm talking about and will never make that mistake again.

Minnesota Bridge

Last week a very large bridge in Minnesota collapsed and people were injured and killed. It was a terrible site to see it fall in the videos that were played on the tv. I've read some testimonies of Christian people that were lead by the Holy Spirit to stay away from that bridge and it saved their lives. God is amazing and spares us probably more then we know from injury or tragedy. I pray for safety for the ones working on the recovery and for the loved ones who have lost someone in this terrible tragedy. I also pray for healing in everyone that was involved.

Makeovers

I was watching a program on tv last night and it was about doing makeovers for people that are outdated. It's amazing to me to see the transformation of these people. Sometimes I think it would be fun to have that done for myself. Some of these people looked totally different and so much younger.

Rain

We finally got some rain! It's been so dry and it's a wonderful sound to hear it falling. Not sure yet how much we've gotten by now but I think it's a pretty good share. The weather people are saying we could get more this afternoon so bring it on. We should hopefully see some green come back into our yard. We have some new grass growing in our front yard and this should be a blessing on that growth.

Baby Bunnies

The other day I was out in our front yard and my husband was watering the grass. He told me to look over and watch some jumping motion underneath the grass that would happen everytime he sprayed some water over that area. So I took a small stick and went over to check it out. Under the loose grass were about 5 or 6 baby bunnies. Oh my goodness, they are so cute. They were making some squeeking noises and climbing over each other to get further down into the hole. It's amazing how these animals nest right in the middle of someone's yard. They are lucky that my husband knows they are there so he doesn't go over their nest with the mower. They will be fun to watch as they start to leave the nest.
