Pool

It's that time again to put up our pool. My husband dreads that but he sure enjoys it when it's hot and humid outside and he can get in it and relax. It really doesn't take long. Maybe an hour and a half at the most. Getting the water in it is what takes so long. It's suppose to be in the 80s today and this next week it is going to be fairly warm so why not get it up, that's what I say.

Tombstone

My husband and I love watching a good western movie. Tombstone is one of those. Kurt Russell is one of the lead actors in it. There are many other very good actors in it and it's one of those movies you can see several times. It has been playing on our western movie channel quite often. I think my husband could watch it every time it's on but not me, I need some time in between the times I see it.

New Grill

We went out the other day and bought a new grill. We got it on sale so we figure we got a pretty good deal. It works so different from our old one. It is a lot prettier too. It has a side burner on it so that I can do most of the cooking outside which will be handy. We've used it once already and it did a good job.

Camping

It is beginning to be great weather for camping. We use to have a large camper when our boys were young and we created great camping memories. Then they grew up with jobs and socializing and we sold our camper. Now it would be fun to own a popup camper and start camping again. I guess we will just have to see what happens.

The last couple of nights I have had some really strange dreams. They are very vivid to my memory and it makes me wonder why people dream such strange types of dreams. I didn't like last nights dream, it was kind of scary. I usually don't eat before I go to bed so I don't think it is caused by food I eat or how tired I am but who knows. It just makes me wonder some times.

Iowa Tornado

This past Saturday night there was some severe weather in the state of Iowa. It was mainly over the central and eastern side of the state. Parkersburg, a small town, was hit severely with a mile wide tornado. It wiped out a huge part of the community and it is so sad to see the destruction. This tornado lifted and landed about 4 times before it quit. It affected other areas also.
There were fatalities because of this horrific tornado. Seven people lost their lives. Some of them lost their lives because they were in their basement where they thought they were safe but they were not because their house fell in on them. How horrible to have to deal with all of this. One day you have a home and a town and the next it looks like a bomb went off. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of these people.

Memorial Day

Well, this Memorial Day started out like any other day. I had to get up early and head to work. Blah blah blah. But then I came home and my husband surprised me with marinated chicken breasts and hamburgers to grill for supper. That was so sweet of him. So we did just that and made our delicious supper and while we were grilling we started a fire in the pit and later had smores for dessert. So all in all it ended up feeling like a holiday after all. We had a very nice time and the weather couldn't be more perfect outside.

Hungry

It is after 6:00 and I am so hungry. I'm sitting here posting and I really need to stop and eat. I'm beginning to not be too creative in my thinking because my mind is occupied with the thought of food and I'm also sitting here listening to my stomach growl and that is not a pleasant sound so I'm going to go see what is in the fridge.

Work

I was fortunate this week to have seven straight days off in a row from work. Of course those days were filled with other activities but at least I wasn't at my job. Well, I had to return today and I wasn't looking forward to it. The day went fairly well but one of the staff had to leave quite a bit earlier then normal so that put a lot more work on the two staff left there. Anyway, it went ok and we worked hard and fast and got out of there in a reasonable amount of time. Tomorrow I work and on Monday and they sound pretty busy too. I guess everyday can't be slow and sweet. That's life. I'm just grateful to have a job.

Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

My family went and saw the new movie out called Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Harrison Ford did an amazing job once again portraying Indiana Jones. We have seen all the original movies that came before this one. It was comical in some parts and a lot of action. It definitely fits in with the other Indiana Jones movies and I hope there is more to come in the future.

Colder

It is a much colder day today. It is gloomy and windy but no rain.
It did rain early this morning with some thunderstorms. I had to dig out my sweatshirts again to stay warm. It sounds as though it is suppose to be warmer this weekend so I am really looking forward to that.

Highlighting

I have very fine, thin hair and about every 2 months I go in and get my hair high and low lighted. It helps to give me some body in my hair and I do have a little natural curl so that helps too. I went today and got my hair done. It always feels so good when it is freshly done. The gal that does it for me is the sweetest thing and we laugh just about the whole time we are together. It is a great thing all around.

Wedding Anniversary

My husband and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary yesterday on May 22. We went out and enjoyed a nice meal except for the fact that we like our steak to be done and it was so red and raw looking that I could swear I heard it moo when I cut into it.={ Anyway, we sent it back and it didn't get done too much more so we just grinned and ate it. They were kind enough to give us a free sundae to share between us so that was pretty nice. All in all we had a great anniversary and looking forward to many more.

Dancing with the Stars

The finale for Dancing with the Stars was on last night and my two favorite couples were in the final two. Christy Yamaguchi and her partner Mark Ballas won the trophy as the best dancers and I have to agree. She did well all throughout the show. The other couple was Edyta Sliwinska and Jason Taylor. They were also very good. He just seemed like such a sweet guy. When I voted I split up my votes as fair as I could cause I liked them both so well. I hated to see the show end and am looking forward to next September when a new Dancing with the Stars begins.

Gong Show

Quite a few years back there was a show on called the Gong Show. People would come on and do what they thought was their talent and there would be three judges sitting there watching and listening. If they felt the act was bad they would get up out of their chair and gong them. Some of the acts were terrible and deserved the gong. Do you remember when the television game show called Password was on? Well, it is coming on again beginning in June. Regis Philbin of Regis and Kelly, will be hosting the game show. They won't be just giving away thousands of dollars, they will be giving away a million dollars. It seems that's the going rate to win on game shows these days. Anyway, I always liked that game show and will probably watch the new one.

How to Frame a Figg

My husband and I watched an older movie with Don Knotts in it called How to Frame a Figg. I had never heard of this movie till now. It was made in 1971, so a few years ago. Figg was Don Knotts character name. The city council tried framing him to make it look like he was taking the money from the city and not the city council. There was a lot of silliness that went on this movie which was typical of Don Knotts. He was a great actor, he was my favorite in the Andy Griffith Show. He was a very talented actor.

Fire Pit

I just got in from sitting by our fire pit. It is so relaxing and fun to sit by the fire and watch the flames. It smells good, too. I went and got my big marshmallows and cooked some over the heat to where they were slightly brown and very soft. They were soooo good. The only problem with all of this is that I now smell like smoke but it's nothing a good shower can't get rid of.

Listerine Whitening Rinse

For a couple of years now I have been using Listerine Whitening Rinse and have been very pleased with the results. You are able to prerinse twice a day but I mainly do it in the morning. Graduations

This weekend starts a lot of graduations. We have one to go to on Saturday. It is for my nephew. And then next Thursday we are going to my other nephew's eight grade graduation. We have a great nephew graduating the first part of June but he lives in Texas and we won't be able to get to that one. It's hard to believe another school year is just about over. Where does the time go?

Steven Wiltshire

There is this young man named Steven Wiltshire, who is autistic, that can draw pictures that are so amazing. He draws many of them from memory. The details in these pictures are so precise. His favorite thing to draw are buildings. He was taken in an airplane flying over New York City and then went back and drew what he had seen. It was so accurate and precise. He had done all this from memory and his drawings are selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars. He has recently really noticed women and he loves to draw them, too. He is an amazing artist.

Slim and Lift

The other day when I had the television on their was this infomercial that was advertising Slim and Lift. It is an undergarment that women can wear under their clothes to smooth out any love handles or bulges we may have. I was sold on it. They did comparisons of women before and after and I was amazed. So I ordered me some. In the order if you bought one you got one free. So that's what I did. I haven't received them yet but I am anxious to try them out.

Tornados and Earthquakes

Lately there have been some horrible things going on in this world. The earthquake that hit over in China is devastating. It is so sad to think of those children buried under all that rubble where the school collapsed. Then in Seneca, MO a tornado wiped out a town the other day. Most of the residents there could not get insurance because there are harmful substances from mining. The government was in the process of buying out people now many are without homes and the chance to rebuild. This is horrible. I can't imagine what they are going through. We really need to be praying for these people.

Wasps

The other day I had left my windows open on our minivan to help keep it a little cooler inside. A while later I had to leave to run an errand and got in my van and looked in my rear view mirror and there was a wasp flying around the back window of my van and he was inside. I was so glad he was way back there because I am terrified of them. So I got out and opened up the back hatch and thankfully he flew out and away. If he had not flown out I don't know what I would have done.

Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil is one of my most favorite shows to watch. I record his shows daily on our dvr. I don't miss an episode. I love how compassionate he is for people and for people who need someone in their face, he is not afraid to do that either. Most of the time he has the guests realizing they need to do some changes in their lives. I am a huge fan and I think he has wise advise to share with ones who need it.

Migraines

Headaches and migraines can just about ruin a person's entire day. I have recently been dealing with a lot of them and it makes it so hard to function. I try not to complain cause it doesn't help anything but it does get very tiring. I just want to wake up and be headache free. Well, maybe tomorrow will be that day.

I am going to go get a massage tonight and I am looking forward to it. It is so relaxing and the massage therapist does a wonderful job. Thunderstorms

It is sounding like we could be in for some severe thunderstorms later today. You wouldn't guess it by how nice it is outside right now. I heard that we may even get hail. I sure hope not because we were once in a hail storm and it did a lot of damage to our town and our property and it took awhile to get everything repaired.

Skin Cancer

I have a friend that has had a few spots removed from her forehead that ended up being skin cancer. I just got back from taking her to a dermatologist because she has been dealing with scabs and itching in the same area. They did 2 biopsies and the doctor is pretty sure the whole area is skin cancer. This friend of mine is 95 years old and I feel bad for her that she has to go through this. It is important through life to use sunscreen to help prevent getting skin cancer.

Mexico Vacation

It has been about one year ago this month that my husband and I took a Mexico Vacation for our 25th anniversary. We had a wonderful time and the resorts are so beautiful. We stayed at an all inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen and had such a great time. The food was so delicious with all the fresh fruit you could eat. The beaches were amazing and the water was warm and beautiful. I would highly recommend people to visit Mexico at least one time in their life. The people are so friendly and helpful. It was a great way to spend our anniversary.

Pool

Well, in a couple of weeks I'm hoping that we can get our pool up and filled so we can start enjoying it. We usually wait till June but I always get so anxious to have it up that I start mentioning it to my husband at the beginning of May. He just looks at me and rolls his eyes. He knows me so well. I can't help how I feel because being in the pool for me is so relaxing.

Vacation

My husband and I have been trying to decide where we should go on vacation. We've talked about going to Durango, Colorado and taking the train ride through the Rockies. We've also talked about going to Texas where we have some relatives that we could stop and see and then head to Houston and visit the church where Joel Osteen preaches. Not too sure yet what we will do but at least we are talking about a vacation especially with the price of gas the way it is.

Recently there was a story on television about people buying outdated food items at several types of stores. They then returned them to let the managers know that they were outdated. The next day this reporter returned back to some of these stores and the items were placed back on the shelf. Of course, none of the managers wanted to be shown or speak. I usually check dates but on canned goods or packaged items I'm not always real good about that so this will hopefully make me more aware of the dates placed on food items.

My husband is a huge fan of the Speed Channel. He loves watching the auctions of some of the most beautiful older cars. Singing birds

This time of year it is so fun to listen to the birds singing outside. We have had so many robins around this spring. This was a rare spring because our backyard has had several robins searching the ground for worms. What a site. We have been enjoying them very much. I love to hear them sing, it's so beautiful.

Summer

It feels like summer weather in spring. It is amazingly gorgeous outside today. They say the temperatures are going to reach the upper 70s but the way it feels already this morning I think it could be in the 80s. I definitly need to go out for a walk and enjoy it. It's fantastic!

Babies

I have the cutest little great niece and nephew. I have been having so much fun looking at all the updates on pictures of them. They are both six months old and the last time I saw them was at Christmas. They are changing so much and are so adorable. I look forward to the next time that I can see them.

Fiery Crash

This morning there was a bad accident on Interstate 80 which involved two tractor trailers. One truck became inflamed and a very brave trooper pulled the man from the truck and saved his life. I love stories like this because you can see that there are many great people in this world who sacrifice their own lives to help others. This man is a hero in my eyes.

Michelle Parker

Michelle Parker is a news reporter who has worked at KCCI in Des Moines. She had worked there for 29 years and passes away at the young age of 52 on Sunday from heart failure. She did a great job reporting and I was so surprised to hear of her death. It is so sad that she had to pass on at such a young age. She will be greatly missed by colleagues and viewers.

It would be absolutely amazing if they could get to the Super Bowl. I know I would have two very happy men in my family.

Fashion Statement or Gang Sign

I was reading an article the other day about students getting suspended from school because they had been shaving lines into their eyebrows. The students are saying it is a fashion statement but the school faculty are saying it is a gang sign. I don't know but I would think you would want to keep the students in school where you know they are off the streets and getting an education instead of suspending them and sending them home to be free to do as they please. It seems harmless to me and I would think it would be best to look past it and keep them in school. If it is gang related will it stop them from being in a gang by suspending them for shaving into their eyebrows? I would think not. It would be different if they were carrying weapons into the school or doing something dangerous.

Need a Break

It is time for a nice break from life and my husband and I are going to get one. We are getting away for a nice weekend. We are looking forward to sleeping in and doing some shopping and maybe catch a movie. It will be so nice to eat out and have someone else do the cooking and clean up. I wish the weather would be better forecasted but it will be fine and I know we will have a good time.
